CEBU City had reached the safest week against the spread of Covid-19 in the first five months of 2021.
This was the claim by City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), after the city recorded the lowest critical care occupancy rate (CCOR) and daily positivity rate (DPR).
Based on the EOC record, Cebu City recorded 11.1 percent CCOR in 11 private hospitals from April 30 to May 10, and 1.45 percent DPR as there were only six persons tested positive out of 413 individuals who were tested for Covid-19.
The EOC noticed that in May, Covid-19 cases in the city were gradually declining from May 1 to 7—the average DPR was only 3.35 percent out of 5,988 individuals who were swabbed.
Meanwhile, Garganera said that based on his monitoring and reports from observers that owners of restaurants and bars implemented health protocols after they were allowed to offer liquor to their customers.
Garganera said the bar owners have promised to keep an eye on their nearby resto bars and check if they follow public health guidelines such as social distancing and wearing of masks when not drinking.
The councilor warned the public not to become complacent, even if the city is in a safe situation now. (PAC)
