Negros Oriental logs 68 new Covid-19 recoveries

DUMAGUETE CITY – Negros Oriental has reported 68 new recoveries from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) amid a continuous climb in the number of new cases that have brought hospitals here to almost full capacity.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, in a virtual press briefing late Monday afternoon, said the latest recoveries covered the period from May 6-7 and brought the total number to 2,291 since last year.

The new recoveries are from Sibulan with 23; Dauin, 14; La Libertad; nine; Dumaguete City, eight; Sta. Catalina, four; Bayawan City, three; Canlaon City, two; Amlan, Tayasan, Bacong, Jimalalud, and Siaton, one each.

Estacion, who is also the health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), likewise said that for May 6 and 7, the province recorded 99 new infections.

The new cases are 20 in this city; Sta. Catalina, 16; Sibulan, 14; Jimalalud, 11; Bais City, 10; Siaton, six; Valencia, four; Ayungon and Bindoy, three each; Bacong, Bayawan City, Tanjay City, La Libertad, Canlaon City, two each; Mabinay and Pamplona, one each.

Meanwhile, six new deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded between May 3 and May 8.

Estacion also said the Covid-19 bed occupancy rates in the biggest government and private hospitals here are as follows: Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH), 100 percent; Ace Dumaguete Doctors Hospital, 100 percent; Silliman University Medical Center (SUMC), 84 percent; Negros Polymedic Hospital, 82 percent; and Holy Child Hospital (HCH), 72 percent.

The total number of isolation beds allocated for Covid-19 patients per hospital is: NOPH, 34; SUMC, 51; HCH, 20; Ace Hospital, 17; Negros Polymedic, nine.

This does not include the smaller government hospitals in the other towns and cities of Negros Oriental.

The total caseload of Negros Oriental as of Monday is 2,811, broken down into 2,291 recoveries, 442 active positive cases, and 78 mortalities. (PNA)
