Vera defends heavyweight belt vs. Bhullar

ONE Championship heavyweight champion Brandon Vera defends his title against former Olympian Arjan Bhullar in the main event of ONE: “Dangal” on May 15 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

This is Vera’s first title defense since moving down in weight to challenge Aung La N Sang for the light heavyweight belt. Vera challenged then light heavyweight king Aung on Oct. 13, 2019 and lost via a second round technical knockout in Tokyo, Japan.

The 43-year-old Vera won the vacant ONE heavyweight crown after a first round head kick knockout of Paul Cheng in 2015. He successfully defended his belt twice with knockout wins over Hideki Sekine and Mauro Cerilli.

Vera has fought some of the elite names in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions in his eight-year stint in the UFC. He faced the likes of Jon Jones, Rany Couture, Fabricio Verdum, Frank Mir, Tim Sylvia and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Bhullar is also a former UFC fighter and had four fights in the world’s biggest MMA organization. He went 3-1 in the UFC, losing to Adam Wieczorek via a second round submission.

Bhullar won his last three bouts and is coming off a unanimous decision over Cerilli in his ONE Championship debut.

Vera is 16-8 with 11 wins by knockout, while the 35-year-old Bhullar is 10-1. (EKA)
