Another NPA surrenderer nabbed

GOVERNMENT operatives have arrested in an intelligence-driven law enforcement operation another communist New People’s Army (NPA) terrorist surrenderer in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested NPA surrenderer as Romeo Sanlao Balolong aka Ka Hildo, 59, who belongs to the Guerrilla Front Kara of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.

Chang said that Balolong was arrested by policemen in a law enforcement operation by way of service of warrant of arrest around 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, in Purok 1, Dumalian village, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.

Chang said Balolong, who recently surrendered, was found to have standing warrant of arrest for the crime of multiple frustrated homicide with recommended bail of P200,000 issued on June 25, 2014 by the court of Pagadian City.

She said Balolong was temporarily detained at San Miguel Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

Balolong was the second NPA surrenderer to be arrested this week for a pending criminal case.

The first was Sylvia Cordesar Edo, 27, who was also arrested in a law enforcement operation by way of service of warrant of arrest around 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, in San Pablo village, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.

Chang earlier said Edo had a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of attempted homicide with P36,000 recommended bail issued by the court of Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur. (SunStar Zamboanga)
