873 Covid-19 cases recorded in Oro within first 14 days of May

THE cumulative case count of Covid-19 cases in the span of 14 days in May 2021 has reach 873, surpassing the total case count in the month of April 2021 alone at 753.

The month of May's cumulative case count also exceeded October 2020's total Covid-19 cases. October 2020, according to city epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya, is the month that marked the first surge of coronavirus cases in Cagayan de Oro.

"Sa atong mga kaso karong bulan lang sa Mayo nilapaw na sa atoang kaso sa bulan sa Oktubre kay mao man na ang atoang first nga pag surge," Retuya said.

"Unang peak sa atoang kaso sa Covid dinhi sa atong dakbayan nahitabo niadto sa bulan sa Oktubre 2020 diin daghan ang mga local cases," he added.

Retuya said it is important to prevent the continuous alarming spread of Covid-19 in the city.

"Kinahanglan ato kining pangitaan og pamaagi nga atong mapakgang nato ni syang pagsaka," Retuya said.

Based on the data reported by Retuya, within the first 14 days of May 2021, they have recorded 95 individuals who have history of travel outside Cagayan de Oro. These individuals have developed symptoms of Covid-19 after they came back to the city.

The city also registered 24 persons who attended birthday celebrations.

Earlier this month, Retuya said that non-essential gatherings and traveling outside of the city are part of the reasons why Cagayan de Oro is experiencing a spike in the number of new Covid-19 cases.
