THE City Government of Bacolod will only wait for the decision of the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF) for the implementation of travel suspension from the Islands of Panay and Negros Occidental.

This was stressed by Councilor Renecito Novero, member of Bacolod Covid-19 Vaccination Council, on Sunday, May 16, 2021, after the Western Visayas-IATF (RIATF) approved a joint resolution recommending a moratorium on the movement of all travelers to and from the Islands of Panay and Negros for seven days.

The resolution was approved on May 15 during the emergency meeting of RIATF with Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas, Governors Arthur Defensor of Iloilo Province and Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental.

Trenas earlier asked for the moratorium after they observed that there has been an increase in their recorded Covid-19 cases and they wanted to contain it.

Novero said the RIATF should also consult with the local government units for the approval of the said request.

Councilor Israel Salanga, chairman of the Action Team on Returning Overseas Filipino Workers, in his post on the Facebook page, said they will wait for the recommendation of the NIATF, but for now, there is no suspension of sea travel.

“We will await the decision of the NIATF for the implementation of said request,” he said.
