CEBUANO super featherweight prospect Joe Noynay will be in for a crucial fight with unbeaten Aussie prospect Liam Wilson on July 7 at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, South Wales, Australia.

A win over Wilson would help Noynay as the Cebuano looks to improve his world ranking.

Noynay is ranked No. 9 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 15 by both the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in the super featherweight division.

Noynay, 25, a native of Bogo City, last saw action in 2019. He fought in Japan and settled to a technical draw with Kenichi Ogawa in a title defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific super featherweight belt.

Noynay fought all three of his fights in 2019 in Japan. He beat Kosuke Saka via a second round stoppage to win the WBO Asia-Pacific belt and scored a six round technical knockout of former Olympian Satoshi Shimizu before his draw with Ogawa.

Wilson is also a 25-year-old prospect. He’s the busier fighter and fought three fights in 2020 and a fight in 2021. He stopped Jesus Cuadro, Jackson Woods and Australia-based Filipino Rodnie Rafol in 2020. His latest fight was a unanimous decision victory over Francis Chua.

Noynay is 18-2-2 with seven knockouts, while Wilson is 9-0 with six knockouts.

The Noynay vs. Wilson fight is one of the main featured contests of the fight between Tim Tszyu, the son of boxing legend Kostya Tszyu, and Michael Zerafa.
