Bing thanks Galvez for additional vaccines

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia expressed his gratitude to National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. for responding positively to the city’s request for additional allocation of vaccines for the city.

Leonardia, in a statement, said the city government earlier received an additional 19,420 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines for the people of Bacolod.

“I would like to thank Secretary Galvez for responding positively to our request to give us more allocation of the vaccines,” he said.

He added the 19,420 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines will go a long way in the city’s quest to accelerate the vaccination of the people.

Leonardia earlier requested the National Government to allocate more vaccines for Bacolod, citing the urgent need to inoculate more residents amid the continued spike in local cases.

“While we are meanwhile dependent on what the national government may give to us, we are looking forward, though, by July when our locally-purchased vaccines come, we’ll have a more stable and bigger and faster vaccination our people,” Leonardia said.

Aside from AstraZeneca vaccines, the City Government is also expecting an additional 3,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines from the National Government.

The City Government already started the mass vaccination in various vaccination centers in Bacolod City.

Last week, the City also opened more than 15 vaccination centers in various barangays in the city.

The vaccination centers will accommodate healthcare workers (A1), senior citizens (A2), and persons with comorbidities (A3) eligible priority groups who have yet to receive Covid-19 vaccine jabs.

They will accommodate only those who have completed their vaccination registration and have received a call or text from the Emergency Operations Center of their confirmed appointments.

The schedule of vaccination is based on a first-come-first-served sequence in the order that the registration came into the City's database.
