CEBU Rep. Eduardo Gullas has welcomed President Rodrigo Duterte’s designation of Maj. Gen. Andres Centino, a Cebuano, as the 63rd Commanding General of the 103,000-strong Philippine Army.

“Cebu is proud of General Centino’s leadership and hard work. We wish him and our men and women in the Army every success,” Gullas said.

Centino was raised in Cebu by his father, a military lawyer, and his mother, a teacher and probation officer, according to Gullas.

Centino graduated from the University of the Philippines College Cebu High School. He started his career as a soldier when he entered the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in 1984. He belongs to the PMA Maringal Class of 1988.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana formally installed Centino as Army chief on Tuesday, May 18, during a change of command in Fort Bonifacio.

Centino, 54, will take the place of Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr., the outgoing Army chief.

Centino previously commanded the Army’s 4th Infantry ‘Diamond’ Division based in Northern Mindanao, before which he held the post of Armed Forces deputy chief of staff for operations.
