BFP officer killed in shootout with Southern Leyte anti-drug operatives
A 40-YEAR-OLD personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) was killed in a shootout with police and anti-narcotics agents during a buy-bust operation in Sogod, Southern Leyte Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
Authorities identified the suspect as Jody Daclan Magallanes, single, a resident of Sogod and presently assigned at Mahaplag Fire Station in Mahaplag, Leyte.
Police said the suspect fired his caliber .45 pistol after he recognized that he was transacting with a police officer during the anti-drug operation around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay Rizal, Sogod.
A poseur-buyer was able to purchase one medium size sachet believed to be containing shabu worth P70,000 from the suspect before the latter engaged the authorities in a firefight.
Police retaliated and hit the suspect in the different parts of his body, according to the information released by the Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas.
The suspect was rushed to Sogod District Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival at around 12:10 p.m. Wednesday by the attending physician, Dr. Moises Zamora Olayvar. (SunStar Philippines)
