THE Archdiocese of Manila is set to welcome its new archbishop, Cardinal Jose Advincula, on Manila Day, June 24, 2021.

"The official notice will come out on Sunday," said Manila Apostolic Administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo.

Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles John Brown is expected to install Advincula as the 33rd Manila archbishop.

Last March, Pope Francis appointed Advincula as the new archbishop of Manila.

Advincula is set to succeed Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who had been serving as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples in the Vatican since February 2020.

Pabillo, on the other hand, has served as the apostolic administrator of Manila since Tagle's departure.

Manila is the Philippines’ first diocese and covers about three million Catholics in 86 parishes. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
