Close to P4M paid to Tupad workers in Ronda, Alcantara

ALMOST a thousand Tupad workers in the towns of Ronda and Alcantara, Cebu received their salary recently, after disinfecting public areas and declogging canals under the Dole’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (Tupad) workers program.

According to Assistant Regional Director Jude Thomas Trayvilla beneficiaries rendered work for 10 days from 1 to 10 May 2021.

“Beneficiaries each received P4,040.00 for their salaries and were also provided with their personal protective equipment or PPEs and a group personal accident insurance good for one year,” he said.

In the town of Ronda, around 514 informal sector workers benefited from the Tupad with the Department shelling out a total of P2,076,560.00. The adjoining municipality of Alcantara has 453 workers covered by the program. A total of P1,830,120.00 was spent by Dole for their salaries.

Beneficiaries, Trayvilla said, were mostly farmers, fishermen, displaced workers and those who are underemployed.

Trayvilla, together with Dole Cebu Provincial Field Office OIC, Vivencio Lagahid and Technical Support Services Division for Employment and Workers’ Welfare (TSSD-EWW) OIC, Ma. Teresa Tanquiamco, personally turned over the transaction codes to beneficiaries during the turn-over ceremonies held at the gymnasium of each municipality.

Salaries of Tupad beneficiaries could be claimed at any branch of the Dole’s partner-money remittance center.

“Beneficiaries will not have to worry anymore of the service charge since it is already being taken care of by the Dole,” said Lagahid, who also welcomed the presence of Mayor Mariano Terence Y. Blanco of Ronda and Mayor Fritz A. Lastimoso of Alcantara during the turn-over ceremonies together with 7th Congressional District Representative Peter John Calderon.

Tupad is a component of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Programs (DILEEP) which is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment to displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers. (PR)
