1,447 establishments in Northern Mindanao temporarily closed

A TOTAL of 1,447 establishments in Northern Mindanao have temporarily shut down their operations as of May 13, 2021, the regional National Economic Development Authority (Neda) reported.

According to Neda Regional Direct Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño, most of these businesses belong to the Wholesale/Retail, Accommodation, and Other services categories.

A total of 119 businesses, on the other hand, have permanently closed.

"Although hinay-hinay, aduna nay mga nag abri but because of our current trend in terms of inspection, some have closed again and most of these are tourism-related establishments, Cariño said.

Four municipalities and one city in Misamis Oriental have suspended the operation of their tourism sites. These areas are the municipalities of Jasaan, Lagonglong, Salay, and Opol, and El Salvador City.

Jasaan Mayor Redentor Jardin on Thursday issued an executive order suspension of operation/closure of the municipality's resorts, tourist spots, gyms, Zumba sessions, and other mass gatherings for two weeks.

Wakes are limited to three days only and burial attendees should not be more than 30 persons.

Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano has recently ordered the closure of floating cottages or balsa in the municipalities of Alubijid and Laguindingan.

Cariño said the Department of Tourism-Northern Mindanao will be having a meeting with all the tourism officers in the region to inform them of the situation as far as tourism-related establishments are concerned.
