THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental has conducted a veterinary medical mission in Barangay San Miguel, Murcia town as part of its disaster preparedness efforts and risk reduction for livestock and poultry sector in the province.
The services provided were consultation, treatment, deworming, and vitamin B supplementation of pet and livestock animals.
Also, there were vaccination and distribution of veterinary drugs, medicines and biologics to boost and strengthen the immune system of pet and livestock animals under the scorching heat amid the prevailing summer season.
The activity, which was held recently, yielded a total of 57 dogs vaccinated against rabies.
There were a total of 1,023, 1,116, 1,116, and 1,198 animals dewormed, diagnosed, treated and vitamin supplemented, respectively, serving a total of 57 clients.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the veterinary medical mission has been successful because of the strong coordination and collaboration among the stakeholders.
The activity in Murcia was spearheaded by Third District Veterinarian Ruffa Mae Gersaniva and its field unit personnel with the assistance of town paraveterinarians (paravets).
Decena said these paravets are considered extension arms of the Provincial Government in the delivery of services in collaboration with the Municipal Government, Municipal Agriculture Office, and the Philippine Carabao Center.
“Boosting the immunity of poultry and livestock animals against extreme weather conditions will enable them to perform optimum level of productivity and also to prevent a possible disease outbreak,” he added.
