Espina: CCCI coffee break

THE Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has recently revived its Kapihan with a new approach and media mileage, a program I developed when I served as vice president (VP) for membership.

A project of the membership and external divisions, the re-invented Coffee Break with CCCI, touches base with the chamber's members in insightful interaction about their companies, or products, and makes it easier for them to bond with and reach out to the entire CCCI membership and the community. It likewise gives regular updates on the group's activities.

SHARING IDEAS at the Coffee Break: Leonora Salvane of GT Cosmetics, MCE, Ed Limtingco, and Haide Canete of Airland Cargo.

PEOPLE at Benedicto College (BC): awardee Ranulfo L. Bisaya Jr. (third from left) with (from left) Dr. Efren Valiente, the BC school director, MCE, Mrs. Bisaya and son, Tess Chan and the BC staff.

The program, co-sponsored by IPI, Wealth Channel 28, Microdata, and possibly Sun.Star Cebu, will be aired twice a month with hosts VP-membership Ed Limtingco and this columnist. The first episodes were shown at 10 a.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. at Wealth TV 28.

The second espisode featured Haide Cañete of the Airland Cargo Movers, an international freight forwarding company whose customers include air and sea freight exporters. It is a wholly Filipino-owned corporation located in Mandaue City. The episode also featured engineer Leonora Salvane of the GT Cosmetics Manufacturing Inc., which sells skin care products. It grew from a mere house-to-house direct selling into large marketing outlets all over the country.

Added to the line of guests were Ria Katrina Alcover, who delighted us with her experiences in a family business called STK Ta Bay Sa Paulito's Seafood House, which serves fresh seafood dishes, like grilled tuna panga, kinilaw, exotic fares like turtle, goat and sawa. A tourism hub, it is branded as the Gastronomic destination.

Then, matching food technology was sales manager Melchor Alejandro of Trends & Technology Inc., a solutions provider and systems integrator for information and communications technology. The company evolved from a basic data connectivity and cabling in the 90s to one of the country's premier systems integrators.

The Coffee Break was certainly a good channel to know Cebu's small- and medium-scale players. With more episodes, CCCI hopes to unveil more successful entrepreneurial ventures. CCCI commends the initial efforts of the CCCI membership and the external affairs and relations division (Eard) staff, led by executive director Grace Ceniza and division heads, with the full support of president Sam Chioson, VP-Eard Ted Locson and VP-membership Ed Limtingco, and trustee Dennis Wong.

We acknowledge our TV partner, Wealth Channel 28, through director Jon Ciocon.

Ylac biennial confab

My friend Anita Sanchez has been busy orchestrating the Ylac national biennial convention scheduled on April 23, at the Cebu Grand Hotel. The keynote speaker is Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal. The big event will see delegates coming from northern and southern Luzon units; Metro Manila and the national capital region; central, eastern and western Visayas units.

The host unit is the San Nicolas, Cebu City, led by Elena Jarantilla, Anita Uy and Elsa Legaspi. The Ylac has been the heart of charitable educational institutions and has helped so many children in their educational needs.
