Comelec confident of hitting 60M voters for 2022 polls

DESPITE having to reduce the number of registered voters after the May 2019 polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is confident that the nunber of registered voters for the May 2022 elections will still be over 60 million.

"As of April, we already have around 59 million approved registered voters," said Comelec Commissioner Antonio Kho.

"Voter registration is still ongoing so we expect to reach around 60 million plus," he added.

There were 61.8 million registered voters during the May 2019 elections.

Comelec, however, deactivated 7.0 million voters who failed to cast their votes in two consecutive elections, leaving only 54 million.

Voter registration in Comelec offices nationwide is held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

On Saturdays, local Comelec offices also hold satellite or off-site voter registration activities in different barangays. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
