THE Angeles City Government has joined the celebration of National Flag Day, which commemorates the first use of the Philippine flag after the victory of the Battle of Alapan in 1898 on May 28.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said the City Government is one with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in partnership with the "Salute to a Clean Flag" movement, in its aim to build love and respect for the country, starting with the advocacy of proper and abundant display of the Philippine flag across the city.
With this, Philippine flags were displayed and installed within the premises of the city hall, off-site offices, and throughout the city to encourage the public to observe the “stop and salute” to the national flag, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 374, declaring May 28 as National Flag Day.
This is also part of the city’s commemoration to the 123rd Philippine Independence Day, as Executive Order 179 was issued to extend the period of celebrating National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12.
The members of Angeles City Barangay Outreach, headed by Michael Lising on May 25, installed the Philippine flags, while the City Engineer’s Office led by Engineer Donato Dizon also put up independence lanterns all around the city’s major thoroughfares.
Lazatin is dedicating the upcoming celebration of the 123rd Philippine Independence Day on June 12 in honor of the city's health workers, frontliners, and backliners fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, these initiatives are constant reminders of the vital contribution of our unsung heroes in today’s freedom.
City Tourism Officer-in-Charge Anneleen Antonio-Sugui said the City Government will continue to provide programs that will nurture our history and culture.
