CAGAYAN de Oro Oscar Moreno on Friday, May 28, 2021, clarified that he does not have the authority to place the city under lockdown without the approval of the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
"Dunay diha sa social media ingon nga nganong mag request pa man ko sa IATF nga ang LGU (local government unit) has the power? Sayop ka na," Moreno said.
"Dunay gahum ang LGU on granular lockdown pero ang granular is different. Ang granular imong i-isolate kanto-kanto lang," he added.
According to Moreno, it is better for the city to be under general community quarantine (GCQ) rather than lockdown, as the latter can significantly affect the economy of Cagayan de Oro.
"Mas maayo nga mag GCQ tang tanan para tanan ta molihok, mag-observe sa minimum public health standards," Moreno said.
The city mayor, however, said that if the IATF's decision is to put Cagayan de Oro under a higher quarantine status, such as modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) or ECQ, he will submit.
"Dili nato gusto nga mas taas pa ang quarantine level. So what do we do? Let us work together to stop the spread of the virus," Moreno said.
