Sangil: Pacquiao got a left hook from Digong

PAMBANSANG kamao Manny Pacquiao again is in the news. Front page. Him being snubbed by several PDP-Laban members on his call not to heed Al Cusi’s, the party vice chairman, call for a council meeting. Then Cusi was sustained by President Rodrigo Duterte. It must have a left Pacquiao red face. That was a left hook to his temple. Not even his scheduled August fight with Errol Spence in Las Vegas is generating much interest. The senator now wanted to be president. OMG.

If you are following his career, you will love him as a ring fighter. 8-world division champion. Wow. He parlayed into many activities, singing, basketball player, preacher, movie acting, ercetera and politics. He was never any good of those mentioned. Only in boxing. At this point in his life, he should be satisfied on what he was able to accomplish. But there’s no satisfaction even when he is resting on his 2billion pesos worth sprawling mansion at the North Forbes, the exclusive enclave for the country’s rich and famous. His desire is bottomless pit.

This the question often asked. When will Manny Pacquiao hang his gloves? His own coach and trainer Freddie Roach has been egging him to stop now that he is ahead. Recently, he just taught the loudmouth Keith Thurman some boxing lessons. Say it, he has almost everything already. Money, influence and fame are already tucked in his belt. Again as I said, he will make Las Vegas alive again when he step into the ring in August and crosses mitt with the younger Errol Spence.

From Kid Kulafu to Pacman. I am bias like many of our countrymen, and hope the outcome will favor the Pambansang Kamao every time he steps into the ring. He is no longer young at 41. Not true that life begins at 40. Kasabihan lang yun. It’s only a saying. And in case can’t be persuaded to stop, I hope, we hope he will not go the the way like De la Hoya, Margarito, Barrera, Cotto, Bradley, Hatton and many other known ring greats.

Nobody stays on top forever. Looking back on his life, he was 16 years old and was Kid Kulafu then. Just as he survived the difficulties and harsh realities of life, the same to this nation which to this day still surviving and getting browbeating from the uncaring leaders who embraced kleptocracy, running around with their stolen money and dancing with joy when there are a lot more Kid Kulafus in many parts of the archipelago trying to search their place in the sun. President Duterte wanted to knock out corruption, but the corrupts are dancing and running around Floyd Mayweather style. You don’t have to look that far. Many line department officials are already rich beyond their dreams. I know a congressman and a senator who were “pobres” before now they are “matapobres.”

Manny Pacquiao's journey in the boxing world may have to end sometime. I watched on YouTube his past fights vs different fighters when he was just starting at 17 years of age. He was awkward then. Raw but determined. That determination and perseverance claimed the ladders of different divisions. He became a congressman and a senator. For all you know he might even be Vice President. President??? Take 2. OH MY GOD, please.
