THE Murcia Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) formally inaugurated its newly constructed two-story building with high-tech conference hall on the second floor and floor-to-ceiling closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitors on the ground floor.

Murcia Mayor Victor Gerardo M. Rojas spearheaded the simple blessing and inauguration on Friday, May 28, 2021, together with Vice Mayor Johnny Reosura, Sangguniang Bayan members, MDRRMO head Vicente Leonida and other department heads of the town.

“I am glad that the MDRRMO now has its own permanent building, which serves as a command center and 24/7 monitoring center of the more than 80 CCTV cameras in strategic places around the town proper. This allows our MDRRMO personnel to monitor suspicious activities and respond immediately to emergencies,” said Rojas.

The MDRRMO command center is located next block to the public plaza, right beside the Philippine National Police (PNP) station and Bureau of Fire Protection station, for quicker coordination with the police and fire officers whenever their assistance is needed.

“Our MDRRMO has two existing multi-purpose vehicles. We intend to provide our MDRRMO with an additional brand-new multi-purpose vehicle and ambulance to further empower our personnel to fulfill their mandate of ensuring the safety of all Murciahanons,” Mayor Rojas added.

The MDRRMO building is just one of the numerous infrastructure projects implemented during the administration of Rojas. Among them are the ongoing renovation and beautification of the plaza and the construction of the two-story building that will house the tourism office, senior citizens office, an airconditioned library equipped with computers and free wifi, and a museum.

Also nearing completion are the Sangguniang Bayan Building beside the municipal building and the multipurpose covered court at the back of the PNP and MDRRMO buildings. In the works are the renovation of the wet market, which includes the installation of tiled display stalls, washing sinks and drainage system, as well as the upcoming construction of the modern slaughterhouse, sanitary landfill and municipal cemetery.

Vice Mayor Johhny Reosura assured the MDRRMO personnel of the municipal council’s support for the purchase of additional vehicles and ambulances, as well as for other MDRRMO endeavors.

“All Murciahanons can see the projects being implemented all over the town under the administration of Mayor Gerry Rojas. Our actions and projects speak for themselves. And as you can notice, these projects are designed to benefit not only the present Murciahanons but also the next generations to come,” said Reosura. (PR)
