TROPICAL Storm "Dante" that brought heavy rains has affected some parts Negros Occidental on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, which also resulted in the suspension of sea travels in the province.

Zeaphard Caelian, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD), said flooding was reported in the town of Binalbagan, Isabela, and Hinoba-an in the south and Victorias City in the north.

In the towns of Binalbagan and Hinoba-an, 10 families composed of 86 individuals were evacuated and sought shelter on higher ground.

Hinoba-an town Councilor Jason Tembrevilla Tupas, meanwhile, said a pickup truck carrying a retired uniformed personnel and his wife originating from Bayawan City, Negros Oriental was swept away by floodwaters.

The pick-up truck was later discovered at the town's coastline, which was totally mangled beyond recognition.

The woman who, as of Wednesday evening, has not yet been formally identified by authorities was reported to have been found by a local fisherman alive.

Her husband, whom they identified as Master Sargeant Daky Dakoskos, who was earlier reported to be missing, was already found alive Wednesday.

Residents in Talisay City were also reported to have scrambled to clear their waterways of garbage to prevent them from clogging up and causing floods.

Bacolod City was also not spared from the flood as several residents in Barangays Alijis and Tangub also fled their homes due to rising floodwaters.

In Barangay Vista Alegre, a portion of the road approaching the overflow was reportedly damaged. It was reported to have been a subject of the residents' complaint of having cracks before the heavy downpour on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, after the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) again hoisted Storm Signal No.1 in the northern portion of the province, including Bacolod City, trips heading Panay island and Cebu were again canceled on Wednesday morning.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental reported 169 passengers and 101 rolling cargoes were stranded at the Bredco port in Bacolod City, Feeder Port in Sagay City, Danao Port in Escalante City, and the Port of San Carlos City.

A total of 17 vessels and one motorbanca heading either to Panay island or Cebu were barred from leaving port.

Sea travel was restored around 11 a.m. after Pagasa removed the storm signal warning for Negros Occidental and Iloilo province.
