Eastern Visayas logs 258 new Covid-19 cases, 3 deaths

CORONAVIRUS disease (Covid-19) cases continue to rise in Eastern Visayas, with 258 new infections recorded on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

The 258 new cases were recorded out of the 1,476 laboratory samples tested in the three Covid-19 laboratories in the region.

The total number of new cases represented a 17.48 percent positivity rate, according to the regional health department.

Aside from 83 recoveries, the region also posted three new Covid-related deaths.

The fatalities were identified as EV-19904, a 36-year-old female from Cabucgayan, Biliran who died on May 31, 2021; EV-20323, a 45-year-old male from Ormoc City who died on May 31, 2021; and EV-20992, a 79-year-old female from Calbayog City who died on May 30, 2021.

With the increasing cases in the region, the Department of Health appealed to the public anew to keep practicing the minimum public health standards at all times and in all settings.

As of Wednesday, June 2, the region’s total number of Covid-19 cases was at 21,176, with total recoveries at 19,707 (93.06 percent) and total deaths at 324 (1.53 percent).

The total active cases in Eastern Visayas already reached 1,145 (5.41 percent). (SunStar Philippines)
