Filipino basketball star Kiefer Ravena is grateful to his Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) team, NLEX, as well as the league’s Board, for giving him their support as he moves to Japan to play for the Shiga Lakestars in the B.League.
The 27-year old penned a lengthy post on his social media account, expressing his gratitude to the people who have been by his side as he takes the next step in his decorated basketball career.
He started by giving thanks to Shiga for believing in him and his talents enough to sign him to a one-year contract, putting him in the same basketball league as his younger brother, Thirdy, who is playing for the SanEn NeoPhoenix.
“In light of today’s announcement, I would like to thank my team, Shiga Lakestars, for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Thank you for the trust and belief that a Filipino can perform and play in such a prestigious league,” Ravena said.
He later thanked the NLEX Road Warriors, which has given him the green light to move to Shiga, although in a statement, the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned squad reiterated that Ravena’s move has to conform to the rules of the PBA.
“I would also like to thank my NLEX Road Warriors Family and Management. To Boss MVP, Boss Rod Franco, Boss Ronald (Dulatre), Coach Yeng (Guiao), and all my teammates, maraming salamat,” he continued.
“The support you have given me all throughout my stay has given me nothing but joy and great memories. Our dream of winning a championship will always be there. I am and will always be proud of this family. Thank you for giving me your blessing and backing me in this next stage of my career.”
He also thanked the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas led by president Al Panlilio. He emphasized that he would always be available to answer the call of national duty even if he is in Japan.
“To Boss Al Panlilio and SBP, I appreciate the support from the start. I would like to give my assurance that I remain fully committed to the Gilas program.”
And finally, he took the time to thank Filipino basketball fans everywhere, vowing to bring glory to the country in whatever way he can.
“Lastly, to the fans, I hope you join me in this journey. I am proud to carry the flag and to say that I am a Filipino,” he said. “I will continue to give glory to my countrymen and women in any way I can. Please continue to support me.” (JNP)
