THE City Government of San Fernando headed by Mayor Edwin Santiago, through its City Health Office, Business License and Permit Division, City Investment and Promotions Office, and Incident Command, together with the local interior government office, marked on Friday, June 4, SM City Pampanga's main entrance -- and areas under the city's jurisdiction -- with the safety seal for compliance on safety and health protocols against Covid-19.

Last week, SM City Pampanga became the first establishment in the province to receive the safety seal certification issued by the Municipality of Mexico for areas covered by the local government unit, as the mall sits on zones of the town and City of San Fernando.

The seal is a joint initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Tourism, Department of Labor and Employment and Department Health. It is given to establishments that comply fully with Covid-19 protocols.

Bearing the seal reassures consumers that it is okay to enter these establishments.

Along with SM Pampanga, SM City Telabastagan, SM City San Fernando Downtown, Robinsons Starmills, WalterMart and Vista Mall were also given the safety seal by the City Government.

San Fernando City Health Officer Carlos Mercado said the safety seal is an assurance that the marked establishments are implementing the right health and protective measures to safeguard customers and visitors, as the government eases pandemic protocols, and as vaccination of priority sectors are revved up by authorities.

"Still, the public and those going to these establishments marked with safety seals must follow minimum health protocols like wearing face masks and shields, social distancing and other sanitation guidelines mandated by authorities. As an added measure, we asked management of establishments to ensure areas are well-ventilated. In malls and other enclosed facilities, we are also asking the public to continue wearing face shields, which for me, is an added layer of protection against the virus and should be continued to be worn despite the calls of some to do away with it," Mercado told SunStar Pampanga.

He said the City Government is willing to coordinate with safety seal-marked establishments for the designation of suited areas as jabbing sites.

"Definitely, we welcome that as we could ramp up the vaccination of priority sectors. We could coordinate with them with the identification of suitable sites or areas where we could conduct vaccination. The City Government has actually added more inoculators so we could finish the A2 and A3 groups as soon as more vaccines are made available to the local government unit," Mercado said. (JTD)
