Quijano: I don’t want to hear about those damn shoulders Bron

Now that the season has ended unceremoniously for the Los Angeles Lakers it’s time to hand in the autopsy report.

We can posit many theories about where the blame lies but of course, in the brilliant clarity of hindsight everything now seems quite obvious.

But I’ve been banging these drums a long time ago when the beat wasn’t mellifluous to the auditory senses of the countless Lebron James die-hard fans.

He is the greatest player of this generation he is not the greatest player of all time, otherwise known as the GOAT.

AD. The knock on Bron was that he could never carry a team to a championship on his own and the absence of Anthony Davis for games 5 and 6 of the first round series against the Phoenix Suns was just another damning piece of evidence.

Sure he is 36 years of age and in his 16th season and his die-hard faithful will argue that no other player has been as dominant in basketball at that advanced age.

No argument there, but he did claim he could buck the absence of AD on account of those shoulders of his.

Sounds suspiciously similar to the vow he made two seasons ago when he said he would turn on playoff mode when he returned from an injury and pitifully failed to make the playoffs, sans a second star on the team.

HOLLOW. The problem with James is that he needs to trumpet and chest-beat about his greatness every chance he gets.

Of course, we all know that he anointed himself as the GOAT in an interview.

He also likes to control the narrative and is fond of planting excuses to attenuate whatever setback may come his way.

Remember the time when he wore a cast for the first time at the post-game 4 interview after being swept in the NBA finals by the Golden State Warriors?

All that posturing now rings hollow in light of the fact that his success rate for NBA championships (4 out of 10 or 40% ) compares dismally to the true GOAT -- Michael Jordan.

Let me just clarify I am not a hater. I am a fan just like anyone else, but I am also a sportswriter and I have to call it like it is.

When you perennially invite your body of work to be judged, you will be judged.

And images of him not getting back on defense, sulking after his teammates commit errors or miss shots and exhibiting despondent body language will forever remain etched in fans’ memories when his greatness will be measured.

Beware what you wish for, Bron. And I don’t want to hear anything about those damn shoulders. Those shoulders have been swept twice in the Finals and now failed to get past the first round in the playoffs.

LAST ROUND. It’s on dear friend, Stela Castellano- Ostrea who recently celebrated her birthday. Cheers!
