THIRTY-SIX militiamen and their dependents benefited from the community outreach mission initiated by the Bravo Company of the Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (IB) in the remote town of Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte, a military official said on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera, 53IB commander, said the beneficiaries of the outreach mission held Wednesday, June 2, were the militiamen and their dependents in Guigang and Guibo patrol bases in the municipality of Siayan.

Herrera said the outreach mission is part of his command’s “Better Life: Adopt a Cafgu (Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit) Project” in partnership with the municipality government of Siayan.

“The ‘Better Life: Adopt a Cafgu Project’ is a comprehensive program of providing the necessary assistance, knowledge, and structural pathway for our Cafgu Active Auxiliary personnel for them to achieve personal and professional growth,” Herrera said.

Herrera said the project is their way of expressing their gratitude and recognizing our Cafgu personnel in their dedication to service for helping our Matapat Troopers in maintaining peace and security in the area.

The activity was spearheaded by the Siayan Mayor Josecor Gepolongca with his team from Siayan Rural Health Unit (RHU), Nurse Victorino Labastida.

Activities included the distribution of food packs, free medical check-ups, operation tuli, and giving of medicines and haircuts.

First Lieutenant Niel Kim Garcia, 53IB’s Bravo wants to show them their gratitude because they are their first responders and the backbone of the Army.

Herrera said the activity is part of the 53IB’s drive to pursue transformation to become a world-class Army that is a source of national pride by 2028 in line with the Army Transformation Roadmap. (SunStar Zamboanga)
