Fetalvero: Focus on the poor

Fetalvero: Focus on the poor

If we want to succeed in life, we should not leave everything to chance. Many among us aspire for a quick promotion but before we become managers or climb the corporate ladder, we have to be better managers first of our own lives.

The internet has a lot of eBooks that could prepare our new graduates.

The book “Great Motivation Secrets of Great Leaders” explores the leadership styles of many of the world’s most influential leaders in business, the military, sports and politics. Our neophytes could extract powerful lessons that managers can put to work in their organizations.

Drawing upon his years of experience as a leadership consultant, visionary and coach, John Balconi reveals the motivational techniques of great leaders and explains ways for managers to see these techniques in everyday situations. It was noted that “we live at a time when many people go ahead. But the majority of people are not able to see their talent. From the present world, imagination, ingenuity, drive and a no-fear, no quitters allowed, often seem to be disappearing from our culture and our world. The main reason for this is that they cannot awaken their hidden talent in their minds.”

The above observations are very much true in Philippine setting.

Thirty percent of our population are poor. Marginalized and impoverished sectors of our society are so preoccupied trying to earn a living to get through their daily subsistence.

Opportunities to even search for ways to advance under this very competitive world are rare for the poorest of the poor. These children equipped with sticks and sacks roam our streets to collect items that could be recycled instead of being able to visit libraries or places where they could be given opportunities to grow mentally and learn to manage their lives at an early age.

They need guardians or parents who could guide them so they will not end up as members of street gangs who create havoc using Molotov bombs highlighted in the news recently.

Civic-minded citizens popularized library on wheels or sidewalk reading activities for the street children however, under this pandemic, it has become more difficult for a face-to-face outreach program.

Our Department of Social Welfare and Development could tie up with our Department of Education to install programs that will focus on the developmental aspect of children being turned over to them by police authorities. Let us make them productive citizens of our country.
