NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said if active cases continue to rise in the province, he will not hesitate to seek a general community quarantine (GCQ) status so he can impose stricter protocols.

"When the numbers call for it. We might have to go to a stricter quarantine status. We are having a net double-digit increase per day of active case," the governor said.

As of June 5, 2021, Negros Occidental logged 1,723 active cases, 354 deaths, and 13,742 recoveries.

Lacson said other than easing the curfew hours in the province, he will continue to order the strict implementation of health protocols in all local government units.

Meanwhile, Lacson said it is the wish of all provinces in the Philippines to have a steady weekly supply of vaccines.

"It should not boil down to who is making the request," he said in reaction to the arrival of 10,000 vials of Sinovac vaccines from the national government on Saturday.

He added that the provincial government is expecting its own share of vaccines as it is still very far from the 70-percent coverage.
