Tricycle driver dies, cop hurt in head-on collision

A TRICYCLE driver died, while a policeman was injured in a head-on collision in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday, June 7.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 12:40 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the national highway of Purok San Francisco in Campo IV village, Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur.

Chang identified the fatality as Adolfo Uyanguren, 57, while wounded was Police Staff Sergeant Warren Dela Peña, 37, who has been assigned in Magsaysay town, Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

Chang said the collision happened when Dela Peña, who was driving a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), overtook on another vehicle while traveling from Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur to Lanao del Norte.

Chang said the tricycle driven by Ayanguren was traversing from Campo IV village, Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur at the time to the incident.

She said Uyanguren, who sustained severe injury, was brought to Blancia Hospital in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

She said Dela Peña, who suffered head injury, was brought to Ramon Magsaysay Municipality Rural Health Unit for medical treatment. (SunStar Zamboanga)
