2 fall, 1 escapes in P6.8-M drug haul

A POLICEMAN escaped but his two cohorts were arrested while some P6.8 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, a top police official said Tuesday, June 8.

Police Colonel Rexmel Reyes, Zamoanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, identified the policeman who managed to escape during the anti-drug operation as Police Patrolman Jidkhan Raji of the 2nd Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Mobile Force Company.

Reyes identified Raji's cohorts who were arrested as Nasher Abdulkadil, 65, an ambulant vendor; and Alhisar Nawadil, 29, a security guard.

Reyes said Raji managed to escape when he sensed they were transacting with undercover policemen but his cohorts, Abdulkadil and Nawadil, were cornered in a buy-bust operation around 10:30 p.m. Monday, June 7, in Zone 5 in Cawit village, Zamboanga City.

Reyes said recovered from the two suspects were some 100 grams of shabu worth P6.8 million, one 9-mm pistol with 14 live ammunition, one plastic bag containing 11 bundles of P1,000 bills used as boodle money, one sling bag, P1,000 genuine bill used as marked money, and a Ford Ranger pick-up truck.

He said a manhunt was launched in coordination with other police units and law enforcers in the region to arrest Raji.

He said charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs act of 2002 will be filed against the suspects. (SunStar Zamboanga)
