5 Guimarasnon OFWs get financial grant from Owwa

FIVE Guimarasnon overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and two dependents of an OFW were awarded with reintegration and scholarship grants on June 8, 2021.

The awarding ceremony was conducted by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) Regional Welfare Office VI, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Guimaras and Provincial Employment Services Office (Peso) is in line with the celebration of Migrant Workers' Day.

Owwa Western Visayas Program Supervising Division Officer-in-Charge Sarah Togonon personally handed over the check to the seven beneficiaries at the Provincial Capitol Food Court in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.

Five OFWs were awarded with financial assistance amounting to P20,000 under the Balik-Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Program of Owwa.

Two of the beneficiaries came from San Lorenzo town, one from Buenavista, one from Jordan and one from Nueva Valencia.

One OFW dependent from the Municipality of Buenavista was awarded with Educational Assistance amounting to P10,000 through the Owwa’s Scholarship in Emergencies (Project Ease) for SY 2020-2021 while another OFW dependent from Jordan town was awarded with Elap educational assistance for High School SY 2020-2021 amounting to P8,000.

“Kabay nga ini nga financial assistance nga ihatag sang Owwa in line sa pagselebrar sang Migrant Workers' Day, makabulig ini sa aton especially subong, sati-on sang pandemic,” Togonon said.

Governor Samuel Gumarin expressed his gratitude to the Owwa and received the Plaque of Recognition.

You are welcome nga magpasakop, just give the signal kay Ma’am Elena Quezon kay ipaabot niya ina sa Owwa kag sa aton nga DOLE, kay Sir Richie," Gumarin said in his message during the awarding ceremony.

Also present during the event were Elena Quezon, Provincial Economic and Development Officer; Richie G. Buyco, OIC-head, DOLE Guimaras Province; and Jean Jover, family welfare officer, Owwa-Western Visayas. (PR)
