THE Cebu City Government is considering extending assistance to Cebu City residents affected by the diversion of flights.

Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama said he will have Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera and City Administrator Floro Casas Jr. handle the matter.

Rama said the number of Cebu City residents who are currently in Manila affected by the flight diversion will have to be determined.

Rama said the City will also provide food, as well as accommodation, should the affected residents need one.

The City will coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for the transportation of the residents from Manila to Cebu, he said.

"We have to address it, taga-atoa na," said Rama in a press conference on June 9, 2021.

Rama also manifested his support to the policy of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on the swab-upon-arrival-policy.

"If ain't broken, why fix it?" Rama said. (JJL)
