THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu Provincial Office awarded the Gold Bagwis seal to 30 establishments in Cebu for “upholding the rights and welfare of consumers and the practice of responsible business amidst the pandemic.”

The Bagwis Seal of Excellence informs consumers about stores that offer quality goods at affordable prices and good quality service.

“The certificate of continuous compliance is given to establishments conforming with the parameters set forth by DTI and the applicable consumer laws, effective customer relations, efficient store management operations, exemplification of social commitment and responsibility, and established quality orientation management,” said DTI-Cebu provincial director Rose Mae Quiñanola.

Nineteen of these establishments were awarded for their “continuous compliance.” They include Toyota Mandaue (Cebu City, South, and North), SM City Cebu Supermarket, Savemore Market (Mactan, Basak, Maribago, EMall, Maguikay, Parkmall, and Canduman), Belmont Industrial Tool Center, Super Shopping Market (Cebu and JMall), Metro Department Store (Ayala and Colon) and Robinsons Supermarket (Banilad, Cebu-Fuente, and Talisay).

Eleven were new awardees. They include Metro Ayala (Supermarket and Appliance Center), Metro Colon (Department Store and Appliance Center), and several branches of the Robinsons Supermarket (Island Central Mactan, Pueblo Verde Mactan, Tabunok, Minglanilla, Talamban, Baseline Center Cebu, and Galleria Cebu).

The seals were awarded on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 and will be placed at the consumer welfare or customer service desks of the conferred establishments.

The Bagwis Award is valid for three years from the date of conferment. It is automatically revalidated through a reassessment by the DTI that an awardee establishment is consistently complying with the Bagwis parameters within three consecutive years.

“There are plenty of benefits of having the DTI Bagwis Seal. This includes internal solving of consumer reports, promotion of products and services, and priority slots to seminars and workshops by DTI,” said Toyota Cebu Customer Relations Manager Edward Darrel Caratao.

Eva R. Du of SM Supermarket Cebu said that the seal helped raise the impression of their consumers by promoting excellent service, nurturing standards, and delivering quality goods.

Michael So of Robinsons Supermarket Corp. said that DTI Cebu was “instrumental” in helping establishments comply with the requirements needed.

DTI encouraged other retail establishments to apply for this annual awarding “to safeguard interests of consumers and to foster fair business practices.” (NRC, PR)
