Anti-drug stings net 5, P207,500 shabu

FIVE persons, including a government employee and a fish trader, were arrested while some P207,500 worth of illegal drugs and explosives were seized in separate anti-drug operations in Zamboanga City, the police reported Friday, June 11, 2021.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested suspects as follows: Michel Acuña, 37; Majan Muammil, 42; Ariel Alviar, 42; Rommel Guzman, 48; and, Abdelhaber Asad, 37, a fish trader.

Chang said Acuña, who works with the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), was arrested by joint police and marine troops in an anti-drug operation around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in San Roque village, this city.

She said seized from Acuña were some P34,000 worth of suspected shabu, P500 marked money, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone.

Chang said Muammil was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 4:20 p.m. Thursday in Zone IV village, this city.

She said confiscated from the possession of Muammil were some 25 grams of suspected shabu worth P170,000, a pouch, 34 pieces of P1,000 bills boodle money topped with one genuine P1,000 bill.

Chang said Alviar and Guzman were found in possession of some P2,000 worth of suspected shabu, two fragmentation grenades, P200 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 5:10 p.m. Thursday at Zone 3, Bunguiao village, this city.

She said recovered from Asad, a fish trader, were some P1,500 worth of suspected shabu and P200 marked money when arrested in an anti-drug operation around 8:15 p.m. Thursday in Kasanyangan village, this city.

Chang said the arrested suspects will be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (SunStar Zamboanga)
