Limpag: Pacquiao and Floyd

Floyd Mayweather does what Floyd Mayweather wants. In a match that was lambasted by critics, the guy who went from Pretty Boy to Money in his boxing career made the rest of the boxing world drool as he laughed his way to the bank armed with an amount they can only dream of.

The bout was all about the money and Mayweather unabashedly admitted so.

When told that the fight could tarnish his legacy already tarnished by accusations of cherrypicking foes, Givemesport.com quoted Mayweather saying, “They say ‘it’s not all about the money.’ Well, your kids can’t eat legacy. Patches on my trunks, that’s US$30

million aline! So, who’s really the smartest one in the sport of boxing?”

I didn’t see the fight. Had no interest in it and had no plans writing about it.

But Floyd, ever the master publicist, piqued the interest of those who had no interest by saying that he is truly blessed and adding: “I do it because I want to do it, not because I have to do it. Whereas, Pacquiao at his age, which it’s sad that he has to fight.”

Yep, Pacquiao is still fighting, but he’s fighting guys Mayweather wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole while wearing full body armor.

The undefeated Keith Thurman the last time around and the undefeated Errol Spence come August.

Whereas Floyd’s last bout before retirement—and before cashing in on exhibitions—was against Conor McGregor, who was making his boxing debut.

And guess what, ever since the Spence vs. Pacquiao bout was announced, boxing pundits were praising Pacquiao’s willingness to fight the best of the best, even at 42.

Robert Garcia, who has faced Pacquiao as a trainer in the opposite corner, said, “I think Spence’s gonna win but that still says a lot about Pacquiao. He could have picked an easy fight for his last fight...Nobody else does that. The same can’t be said about

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Look at his (Pacquiao) last fights. Look at Mayweather’s last few fights.”

That is what most think of course, but Floyd wants to change the narrative and say he’s the richest boxer ever. That he has all his cars and multi-million dollar houses paid for and that he’s doing this exhibitions for money, just because he can.

Let’s see if folks remember that 10 years from now.
