DA joins DOT’s food tourism reboot

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has joined the relaunch of the Department of Tourism's (DOT) Kain Na 2021 Food Tourism Reboot from June 11 to 13 at the Ayala Mall in Angeles City.

This is despite the fact that the country’s tourism has been most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in the past year. Kain Na, with the theme “Food Tourism Reboot,” continued to serve its signature line-up of digital events, including the Global PROSPECTives in Food and Gastronomy Tourism, Food Tourism Exchange, and Food Tourism 101.

“Each year, the Kain Na Food and Travel Festival continues to evolve in response to the needs of our valued tourism stakeholders,” Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said during the opening ceremony.

Puyat said 20 physical booths were put up for the festival, each promoting products and services of food and farm tourism stakeholders across the country, in cooperation with different DOT regional offices and the DA.

The DA also set up stalls to introduce the products of Central Luzon farmers. These include the KAKA Association Inc., Florida-Lubao Organic Farmers Association, RV DF De Dios Food Manufacturing, and Grann Garden Shop.

Earlier this year, the DOT led food tourism validation caravans that enabled representatives of the Philippine Tour Operators Association, Inc. to visit the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, and Central Luzon to experience new culinary activities and tourist attractions that they can incorporate in their tour packages. The packages include day tours, overnight stays, and 3-day/2-night promos to culinary tourism destinations like Pampanga, Bulacan, Calabarzon, Baguio, Subic, Benguet, Mountain Province, La Union, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
