Kalibo residents warned vs dengue

VICE Mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz warned residents in Kalibo, Aklan against dengue amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, saying a number of cases have already been reported in town.

Dela Cruz said that based on reports of the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of the Provincial Health Office (Pesu-PHO), Kalibo already has 28 dengue cases since January this year.

"Though the number of dengue cases now is minimal compared to previous years, it is still important to Kalibo residents to be vigilant especially since Kalibo is now experiencing a surge of Covid-19 cases. This is the time for our residents to avoid being hospitalized," she said.

Reports from Pesu indicate that last year, from January 1 to June 5, 2020, Kalibo had registered 298 dengue cases.

As to Covid-19 cases, Kalibo already has 87 active Covid-19 cases, while 30 patients have died and 720 have recovered as of June 12, 2021.

The month of June has been declared as a dengue awareness month through a proclamation signed in 1998 by former President Fidel Ramos. (SunStar Philippines)
