SINCE Cebu City has not received new delivery of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine, it is only using the vaccination site at the University of Cebu Senior High campus in Barangay Sambag 1 to inject the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, City Health Department (CHD) officer-in-charge, said they are waiting for the latest batch of vaccines to be delivered to the city.
He said the City has an allocation of more than 21,000 doses from the new batch of Pfizer vaccine that arrived in the region, but he doesn’t know when the Department of Health (DOH) 7 turn these over.
“We are waiting for the vaccine so we can resume (the inoculation) again,” he said.
AstraZeneca vaccines were the last to be delivered to the city. These were all intended for the first dose.
According to Ibones, these were used by Friday, June 11, 2021.
Since Pfizer vaccines will only be injected to individuals belonging to Categories A1 (health care workers), A2 (senior citizens), A3 (persons with comorbidities) and A5 (indigent sector), Ibones hopes the City will soon receive a new shipment of the Sinovac vaccine that it can administer to essential and economic workers that belong to the Category A4.
He said the larger population belongs to the Category A4.
According to the latest data that Ibones provided, close to 53,000 individuals have been inoculated with the first dose, while around 23,000 have received the second dose or are fully vaccinated.
More than 200,000 individuals are registered for the City’s vaccination program. (JJL)
