After months of designing, drawing and approvals, and more months of construction, an architect finally saw his face-lifting project come to life.

“The original dwelling is an eclectic two-storey, which we reinstated in a modern style compassionate to the minimalist lifestyle,” explains Dumaguete-based architect Ned Carlos. He was responsible for the home’s furniture and interior design.

The existing abode contains the living, dining, kitchen, a master bedroom, children’s bedroom, a bathroom in both ground floor and upstairs, and a gym located on the second floor. Two families can live separately, one on the first floor, and the other, on the upper floor. Clean lines and a calm palette prevail so that old and new smoothly drift over scale and materiality.

Ned enlightened that working with a restrained budget to create a design without letting down the standards was one of the principal tests. The homeowners, a young couple with a baby on the way, sought a positive, modern home with their mama living disjointedly but in the same house.

“Playing with layers of white and earth-tone accentuated the interiors, and fortified calmness,” Ned said. The furniture, which nearly alter the white walled interiors into an artwork, generate evocative connections between old and new.

Fashioning a reason of agelessness was also vital to endorsing the house will age elegantly. “We chose white tiles for the floors for their resilience and luxury of housework,” the architect said. “The dappled granite for kitchen countertops was also preferred for practical reasons, since this is a family dwelling.”

The absenteeism of adornment and the abridged number of art pieces and ornamental accessories all over the residence tolerate each nook to breathe, both visually and spatially. Here, precision and enhancement happen and the house becomes an offering to hold back and meditate, with a permeating erudition of repose that helps focus on what is truly indispensable in life.
