QUALIFIED senior citizens residing in Cebu City have another reason to stay at home as the Cebu City Government will conduct its house-to-house distribution of financial assistance starting June 26, 2021.

Jeffrey Ocampo, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca) executive director, said each qualified senior citizen will receive P3,000 to cover the cash assistance for the months of April, May and June.

Ocampo urged the senior citizens to mark their homes so the disbursing officers can easily identify their houses.

He also reminded them to prepare their OSCA identification card (ID) and a ballpen.

Health protocols will have to be observed during the distribution, he said.

For those who are not in the city during the distribution, Ocampo said the liaison officers will contact them for their schedule.

For those who already have cash cards, their financial assistance will be deposited to their respective accounts.

Cebu City distributed the first batch of cash cards to around 13,000 senior citizens.

There are 10,000 more cash cards that are expected to be distributed once the second batch is released.

There are now 87,538 senior citizens who are qualified to receive the monthly cash aid under the City’s financial assistance program.

Ocampo urged the senior citizens to stay at home and wait for their assistance to arrive.

Meanwhile, Cebu City’s Vaccine Advisory Board may take advantage of the distribution by sending personnel who will try to convince the senior citizens to receive the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Cebu City Health Department (CHD) officer-in-charge Jeffrey Ibones said only around 25,000 senior citizens in the city have been vaccinated.

“We’re too far from our target yet,” he said.

Ibones said the distribution of the cash aid would provide an opportunity to educate the senior citizens about the Covid-19 vaccination program. (JJL)
