Davao Region records highest number of new Covid-19 cases in single day

DAVAO Region recorded its highest number of new Covid-19 cases in a single day at 725 on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

With the newly-logged cases, the total Covid-19 in the region reached 35,094.

Data from the Department of Health (DOH) in Davao Region showed that of the new cases, Davao City contributed the bulk of the cases with 397, also its highest since the pandemic started.

Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental also logged three-digit cases with 120 and 125, respectively.

Davao de Oro recorded 41 new cases while Davao Occidental recorded 30.

The number of new Covid-19 cases in the region were 16 percent of the 4,610 individuals who were tested for Sars-CoV-2.

With the new cases, active cases jumped to 7,415, also the region’s highest since the pandemic. Of this number, 4,022 were from Davao City, 1,600 from Davao del Norte, 649 from Davao de Oro, 645 from Davao del Sur, 358 from Davao Oriental, and 141 from Davao Occidental.

Around 89.5 percent or 6,637 of the active cases were asymptomatic. Mild cases account for 8.3 percent or 619 of the active cases. The region also had 142 severe cases and 17 critical cases.

Meanwhile, total recoveries reached 26,430 after 297 new recoveries were recorded. Of the new recoveries, 95 were from Davao del Norte, 71 from Davao Oriental, 47 from Davao City, 43 from Davao del Sur, 36 from Davao de Oro, and five from Davao Occidental.

Eight new deaths were recorded, making the total number of deaths reached 1,249. Davao City, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental recorded two deaths each while Davao del Norte and Davao Occidental recorded one death each.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases recently extended Davao City’s modified enhanced community quarantine status until June 30 due to the continuous rising number of cases in the city.

Davao del Norte was elevated to general community quarantine until the end of the month due to the rising number of cases.

The rest of the region is under modified general community quarantine.
