THE Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) has reminded everyone that cockfighting events are still prohibited in the province.

Nocppo Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco said cockfight events are a form of mass gathering and it is the reason why holding such events is prohibited.

She said as long as Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will not issue any approval for holding such events, Nocppo will continue its operations against the activity.

Nocppo Director Police Colonel Romy Palgue has also issued orders to police chiefs in the province to regularly monitor their areas and immediately conduct operations against cockfight events.

Negros Occidental Provincial Administrator lawyer Rayfrando Diaz, meanwhile, said holding online cockfights is not prohibited under the modified general community quarantine, but organizers of such events must coordinate with local authorities first.

Diaz said live viewers should not be present, although there should be designated areas for viewing and proper health protocols should be observed.
