Bacolod seeks cooperation of resorts, bars to contain spread of coronavirus

THE City Government of Bacolod is asking for the support and cooperation of resorts, bars, restaurants, and coffee shop owners to help contain the spread of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Mayor Evelio Leonardia along with Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of Bacolod City Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), and officials of Emergency Operations held a meeting Friday, June 18, 2021, with owners of resorts, bars, restaurants and coffee shops in the city in connection with the forthcoming celebration of the Feast of San Juan on June 24, which traditionally gathers big crowds.

Leonardia in a statement said they held a meeting Friday with resort owners in Barangays Punta Taytay and Pahanocoy.

They will hold another meeting Saturday with resort owners in Barangays Granada and Alangilan.

“We will be seeking their support and cooperation in our efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the city,” Leonardia said.

As of June 17, Bacolod City had a total of 11,700 Covid-19 cases. Of the number, 9,367 patients already recovered, 2,037 were active cases and 293 were deaths.

In Negros Occidental, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson earlier ordered the three-day closure of all resorts in Negros Occidental from June 23 to 25.

Lacson said the closure is aimed at preventing mass gatherings at beaches and mountain resorts in Negros Occidental.
