4 nabbed in Zamboanga Peninsula anti-drug stings

AN ALLEGED big-time drug pusher and three others were arrested while some P158,400 illegal drugs were seized in separate anti-drug operations in the Zamboanga Peninsula, the police reported Saturday, June 19.

Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested suspects as the following: Aljier Sarmiento, 32, alleged big-time drug suspect; Karim Bannister, 21; Ferdinand Javier, 26; and John Lloyd Lumanta, 32.

Ylagan said Sarmiento was arrested in an anti-drug operation by joint policemen and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives around 1:30 p.m. Friday in Purok Ipil-Ipil in Magdaup village, Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Ylagan said seized from Sarmiento were some 15 grams of suspected shabu worth P102,000, three sachets of instant coffee, and 45 pieces of P1,000 boodle money topped with one genuine P500 bill as marked money.

He said recovered from Bannister were a gram of suspected shabu worth P6,800 and P300 when arrested in an anti-drug operation around 6:30 p.m. Friday in Zone 9C in Zambowood village, Zamboanga City.

Ylagan said Javier yielded some P2,000 worth of suspected shabu, a coin purse and P200 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 8:30 p.m. Friday on San Pedro Street, Zone 1, in Ayala village, Zamboanga City.

He said Lumanta was arrested in possession of seven grams of suspected shabu worth P47,600 in a buy-bust operation around 9:15 p.m. Friday in Sinaman village, Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte.

Ylagan said also seized from Lumanta were P500 marked money, a motorcycle and illegal drug paraphernalia.

He said the suspects were detained and charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them. (SunStar Zamboanga)
