The recent opening of the Savers Industrial and Building Solutions (SIBS) at Clark Center in Berthaphil III is just what locators and investors in and around Clark need to propel business growth.
Unmindful of the adverse effects of Covid-19, Jack Uy, the equally dashing and debonair brother of Dennis Uy (of Angeles City of course) just delivered a continuing commitment of the Savers Group (including Converge ICT Solutions) to help prop up the economy and livelihood of thousands.
With their unperturbed confidence, there is just no let-up in their investments and business projects. One must also note that in Balibago, Angeles City, Jack Uy has continued to expand their multi-storey building that houses the Best Western Metro Clark hotel, the Savers Appliance shop, some select and fine restaurants. While Dennis has hogged headlines with his trailblazing endeavors in fiber optics all over the Philippines now, Jack has always been working with him. Silently but effectively. Not too many know of his motivation and inspiration on Dennis.
From a mere showroom and sales center for air conditioning units, Jack has made sure that business equipment and supply chain goes a notch higher. SIBS will now cater to wholistic quality air solutions (air conditioning and air cleaning/sanitizing that are not only environment-friendly but are also effective to battle viruses). SIBS deals also elevators, escalators, including building auxiliary systems such as fire alarm and detection system, CCTV, door access controls, and room automation to help bring a safer and smart facility for their businesses.

It’s a campaign that was geared to succeed.
More than just the immaculate record of Gilas Pilipinas, there were also other triumphs in the FIBA Asia leg in Clark/Angeles City.
For one, it shows the readiness of Clark (and Angeles City) to host a tournament -- whether in Bubble set up or otherwise. It is also a win for cooperation between Clark authorities (BCDA and CDC) and the host LGU -- Angeles City.
CDC has always been treated like an LGU for Clark Freeport as it is the government agency that is mandated to manage the 4,440-hectare economic and tourism hub. It is also the implementing arm of the BCDA for the former US military airbase.
BCDA, being the mother company of CDC, has always tended to its child-agency. This can be traced from the success of the PBA Bubble that ran for two months last year where Sec. Vince Dizon, BCDA President and former CDC President Noel Manankil has tandemed for the league’s bubble tournament. The government agencies provided Covid tests for PBA teams, along with support in logistics, security and even manpower.
The success of both the PBA Bubble and the FIBA Clark/Angeles City leg cemented not just a claim but it laid so bare a reality that Clark is THE sports or sports tourism destination of the Philippines. No matter you may call it, Clark has indeed become a destination for an sporting event – with or without spectators.
With spectators, the memory of hosting several sporting events in the 2019 Southeast Asia Games is still fresh in our minds. The Freeport hosted Archery, Lawn Bowls, Rugby 7s and Dance Sports, to name a few. With a new world-class and certified stadium and aquatic center, the New Clark City (about 18 kilometers north of the Freeport), Clark is now on the map of competitive sports and athletic events.
Sans spectators? The bubble leagues just projected Clark in viewership -- traditional and social media -- across Asia that we have never been seen before.

In the recent presscon for the FIBA tournament, BCDA President Vince Dizon attributes the success of Clark in sports tourism in the planning and outpouring of support of the national leadership to the infrastructure build-up.
“We've strive very hard even before COVID to really make Clark a major international destination. That's why the Duterte administration has really poured a lot of infrastructure investments like primarily in the development of the Clark International Airport which by the way we're going to inaugurate next month. And also the other facilities such as the sports facilities in New Clark City,” Dizon said.
For his part, CDC President Manny Gaerlan is quick to add that Clark has the potent combination of manpower and facilities to stage events successfully.
“Human resources is the number one asset -- CDC and BCDA both have in hosting such event,” he said.
“And secondly, our amenities as you see Clark Freeport Zone has a very distinct advantage over all other venues. We are the preferred MICE destination and we have promoted Clark in the aspect of Sports Tourism.”
I cannot agree any better with Gen. Gaerlan on the manpower aspect. Not because I was a part of CDC before. But I know hardworking people in so many offices who, even in the face of global pandemic, risk it all (even from the onset of Covid in February last year). They include officers and staff of Tourism Promotions, Communications, Engineering, and Security Divisions. While I am tempted to give out names, I think CDC top management knows who rightfully deserves not just a pat on the back but also long overdue promotions.
