Comelec offers special voter registration for men

THE three-day special registration the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Mandaue City set up exclusively for men to commemorate Father’s Day will end on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

Sarah Christine Reuyan, Comelec elections assistant, said they came up with this scheme to entice the city’s eligible male population to register so they can vote in next year’s national elections.

She said they also distributed rubbing alcohol to the first 20 male registrants on each day.

Reuyan said the number of registrants has been going up with only 100 days to go before registration closes.

Since last week, close to 200 individuals have registered every day, she said, adding that on average the number of registrants does not go down below 100.

She said residents should not wait until the last minute to register like what happened in the last registration.

Reuyan said they want to avoid long lines and people flocking to their office in light of the current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

She said the Comelec Mandaue office is located next to the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. It is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

She said they will hold a satellite voter registration in Barangay Casili on Saturday, June 26.

It will be their first satellite registration since the start of the health crisis.

She said they plan to hold more satellite registration events but only in barangays that have had no Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days.

Based on their records, Mandaue City has 217,506 registered voters, of whom 104,347 are men and 113,159 are women. (KFD)
