Gov’t banks on ‘safety seal’ to get customers back

BADGE. The Department of Trade and Industry Cebu Provincial Office has awarded its first Safety Seal to The Marketplace in Robinsons Galleria Cebu. THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 7 has received a total of 74 applications for the Safety Seal Certification.

Of the total, 62 applications were from Cebu, seven were from Bohol and five were from Negros Oriental.

Twenty applications in Cebu were approved for DTI awarding on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

“We are awarding these (safety) seals to business establishments for the safe re-opening of the economy and to re-establish consumer confidence,” DTI 7 Director Ma. Elena Arbon said in a press release.

The Safety Seal Certification is a voluntary certification scheme that affirms that an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses or integrates its contact tracing with StaySafe.ph.

DTI issues the Safety Seal for supermarkets, groceries, convenience stores, membership shopping clubs, construction supply/hardware stores, logistics service providers, barbershops and salons, and service and repair shops.

DTI Cebu awarded its first Safety Seal to The Marketplace in Robinsons Galleria Cebu. The Marketplace is the premium supermarket brand of Robinsons Retail Holdings (RHH) Inc.

RHH operations manager Zenaida Yu said they are grateful for the safety seal.

“As a major retailer promoting health and wellness, we will continue to support and work with the DTI on its programs intended for consumer protection,” said Yu.

Other branches of The Marketplace, Robinsons Supermarkets, Robinsons Easymart and Shopwise were also cited during the ceremony and received their DTI Gold “Bagwis” Award in the same month.

A branch of Bruno’s Barbers in SM City Cebu also received its safety seal from the DTI.

DOT, Dole awardees

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 also awarded its first Safety Seal to Cebu Link Joint Venture for its Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway project while the Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 awarded a safety seal to its accredited establishment Bai Hotel.

Tourism-related establishments like hotels, resorts, apartment hotels, other accredited accommodation establishments, travel and tours services, meetings, incentives, conferences and events venues and facilities, and restaurants inside hotels and resorts can apply for their safety seal certificate with the DOT.

Manufacturing, construction sites, utilities, information and communication companies, and warehouses are covered by the Dole.

Malls, wet markets, other retail stores, restaurants outside hotels and resorts, fast food, eateries, coffee shops, banks, money changers, pawnshops, remittance centers, car wash, laundry service centers, art galleries, libraries, museums, zoo, sports centers, tutorial, testing, review centers, gyms, spas, cinemas, arcades and all other private establishments are covered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Validity

The safety seal will be valid for six months from the date of issuance, except for those issued to tourism enterprises which will be valid for one year.

The safety seal is also renewable subject to continued compliance with the eligibility requirements.

Not all applications for safety seal are automatically approved as the agency concerned has to do a physical inspection to ensure that the business establishment complies with the minimum health protocols, which include proper ventilation in the establishment.

Establishments with safety seal are expected to strictly implement proper wearing of face shields and face masks, good ventilation, disinfection, and use the contact tracing system of StaySafe.ph to maintain the good housekeeping badge. (JOB)
