EXPRESSING readiness in pursuing sustainable gains for its residents, the City Government of Sipalay is pushing for the development of economic zones in the locality.

Mayor Ma. Gina Lizares has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) during the latter's Global Biz: Thinking Global, Acting Local virtual event Tuesday, June 29.

Sipalay took part as one of the few identified local government units (LGUs) to develop economic zones through the help of the Peza.

Lizares, in a statement, emphasized the City Government's drive to balancing economic development and its commitment to environmental conservation.

The Peza's Global Biz event is in line with the Accelerating Rural Progress program of the government.

This is provided under Presidential Administrative Order 18, which mandates the creation of specific economic zones in the countryside.

The mayor was with the city's Executive Team composed of City Tourism Officer Jerick Lacson, who serves as the Local Economic Investment and Promotions officer; executive assistant for Tourism and Education Praem Mediodia, community affairs officer; Chief of Staff Katherine Maguad; and Information Officer James Efren Lim, among others.
