Derby Ace routs Barako, 93-80

MANILA - B-MEG Derby Ace unleashed its might in the fourth period to pull off a 93-80 win over Barako Energy Coffee Wednesday in the 35th Philippine Basketball Association Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Llamados suprisingly had a rough time against the Coffee Masters, who were playing without import Sammy Monroe.

The 6’5” Monroe, a former guard-forward at Newberry College, was serving a one-game suspension for hitting Talk ‘N Text’ Mark Yee during their game last April 16.

KG Canaleta, James Yap and import Lorenzo Wade combined for a 14-4 rally to put the Llamados up, 89-80, with only 3:48 remaining.

With the victory, the Llamados improved to a 3-2 slate, while the Coffee Masters dropped to the bottom with a 1-6 card.

“They have no import so we found a big opportunity to come up with a big win. It would have been a wasted chance had we not taken advantage of it,” said the 2006 MVP Yap.

Wade topscored for the Llamados with 27 points, 17 in the first half, while Yap finished with 18 points.

Leo Najorda led the Coffee Masters with 25 points and Erwin Gaco had 14.

Meanwhile, the on-going elimination stage will take a weeklong break for the staging of the 2010 PBA All-Star Game in Puerto Princesa City on April 23.
