More vaccination sites open in Baguio as demand continues to grow

BAGUIO City will open additional vaccination sites to cater to more people as demand to be inoculated against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) continues to increase.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong directed concerned offices to fast-track the opening of two satellite vaccination sites at the University of Cordilleras Grade School and Junior High School along Hamada Subdivision Road and at the Rillera Bldg., City Market.

City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo said the two new sites will open anytime next week upon completion of all the logistical and documentary requirements.

The UC site will accommodate residents of adjacent barangays while Rillera Bldg. will cater to market vendors and patrons.

Since the UC site lacks parking space, a drop-and-go flow will be adopted.

Currently, the city has five vaccination mega sites at the St. Louis University parking building, University of Baguio gym, St. Louis School Inc. at St. Vincent, SM City Baguio and the Baguio Country Club.

Galpo said they are also negotiating with other institutions like the Pines City Doctors Hospital and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority also as potential sites.

While there is no new vaccine acceptability survey done in the city, Galpo said demand for vaccines has been observed to have considerably increased from the 50 percent acceptability rate determined from the last survey.

“In fact, it is apparent that our demand for vaccines now is higher than the supply that we have,” she said.

Currently, the city’s vaccine supply from the national government remains limited but Magalong continues to exert effort to ensure steady supply to the city.

Last week, he sought speeding up of the vaccination program in face of the anticipated surges in Covid-19 cases due to increased mobility, reopening to tourists and the threat of the more harmful delta variant. (PR)
